Another Bicycling Editors' Choice Award for Defy!
For the fourth consecutive year the Giant Defy was selected by Bicycling magazine as a winner in itsEditors’ Choice Road Bike Awards. The staff of Bicycling chose 30 finalists—the best road bikes of 2013—and put them to the test on the roads of San Diego County, California. They chose a total of five Giant men's bikes as finalists and named Defy 2 the winner in its Entry Level Road Bike category.
“Riding the Defy 2, our testers forgot they were straddling such an affordable bike,” reported Bicycling. “The aluminum frame was stiff and efficient, and not overly jarring on rough roads.”
The Bicycling test staff pedaled a cumulative 221 hours, evaluating each bike on the roads of Southern California, including a 12-mile climb to Mount Palomar.
Their conclusion on the winning Defy: "Fast and responsive, the Defy is ideal for riders with a tight budget but ambitious goals—like completing their first century or riding a fondo."
In addition to Defy, Giant had four finalists in other road and mountain bike categories: TCR Advanced SL 1 in the Race Bikes category; Defy Advanced 1 in the Classics Bikes category; Anthem X Advanced 29er 0 in the Full-Suspension Race XC category; and Giant Trance X 29er 0 in the Trail 29 category.
The Editors’ Choice Awards represent the highest honor for Bicycling, the world’s largest cycling magazine with more than 2 million readers. You can read more about the Defy and the other winners in the June issue, or online at Bicycling.com.
While Cycling Plus tested the Giant Defy Advanced 2 in their December issue awarding it 4 stars and Road.cc featured Giant Defy Composite 3 in their buyer's guide - Cycling Plus testers also took a look at their AluxX aluminium sibling - the Giant Defy 4.
Testers took the Giant for a 130km charity ride to Bournemouth - over some less than smooth Winter ravaged roads to give it a thorough grilling - and the lightweight Giant came out on top with an incredible 4.5 stars!
Lighter than a bike costing over 3 times more that featured in the same issue, Giant Defy 4 also had the lightest weight wheel and tyre combination on test - but it was the frames' ride quality that really made it stand out;
"Versatile, with a quality frame and great ride"
The latest Giant Defy has been years in the making offering the perfect balance of weight, performance and comfort.
"It's the lightest, balancing great performance, comfort and nifty handling with year round versatility. Road bike, commuter, light tourer, sportive machine or Winter trainer - the Defy will do just about anything"
